Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh having a look of the rose quality at the Dewlieh horticultural farm at Umsning in Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya state, about 60 km away from Guwahati on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Jairam Ramesh who is in a two day long visit to Meghalaya took stock of the infrastructure facility available in Dawki from where 150 trucks carry coal from India to Bangladesh every day and also the horticultural sectors. Meghalaya situated at an altitude of 3200 fit above the see level is a suitable place for flowers and variety of fruits. Total production of rose in Meghalaya in 2006 was 20, 08, 000 stems. Majority of these roses are being exported to Europe and Dubai apart from other parts of the country.
